+Factor with another book review The Curious Incident of the Dog In the Night-TimeShelves: Mystery, Contemporary
Age range: Young Adult Author: Mark Haddon Published: May 18 2004 Pages: 226 Synopsis: Christopher John Francis Boone knows all the countries of the world and their capitals and every prime number up to 7,057. He relates well to animals but has no understanding of human emotions. He cannot stand to be touched and he detests the color yellow. Although gifted with a superbly logical brain, for fifteen-year-old Christopher everyday interactions and admonishments have little meaning. He lives on patterns, rules, and a diagram kept in his pocket. Then one day, a neighbor's dog, Wellington, is killed and his carefully constructive universe is threatened. Christopher sets out to solve the murder in the style of his favorite (logical) detective, Sherlock Holmes. What follows makes for a novel that is deeply funny, poignant, and fascinating in its portrayal of a person whose curse and blessing are a mind that perceives the world entirely literally. Review Writing and Characters: 9/10 I liked all the characters in this novel, especially the main character which I could really relate to. He was just like me and I could understand how he does things a lot of the time. He did rarely get annoying but it didn't really ruin the experience and didn't make me not like the main character. The rest of the characters are pretty likable as well and don't get too annoying, or really mean to the main character. Feels: 8/10 I could bond with most of the characters in the novel and their actions were acknowledged as they should've been. Also, the book made me feel really entertained and interested in the main character unlike other books that make the main character blander than white bread and boring. The book went all out with what it used with material which is pretty cool and unpredictable. My Personal Experience I had a fun time reading the book and getting to know the characters was really cool and I had a great read through this book. I liked the choice of illustrations being in the book so I could get clear images of things, also there was no unnecessary filler written in the book. All in all, a great book Would I recommend this? Yes of course, I found it really nice and enjoyable to keep it simple. Give it a shot and see if you like it Overall Rating: 8/10 An interesting book to read. %Limbo Hengoku had a horrifying experience he wants to share with us: the movie Sinister
Sinister Genre: Horror, Mystery, Thriller Age Certification: Rated R Director: Scott Derrickson Writers: Scott Derrickson, C. Robert Cargill Notable Actors: Ethan Hawke, Juliet Rylance, Fred Thompson, James Ransone, Clare Foley, Michael Hall D'Addario Release: 10/5/2012, English Plot Outline: A true-crime writer finds a cache of 8mm home movies films that suggest the murder he is currently researching is the work of a serial killer whose career dates back to the 1960s. Review Acting: 7.5/10 I thought the acting was okay and believable most of the time. But at times, when they were supposed to be scared, they were not really believable. Writing: 8/10 The story is interesting and the characters are introduced properly. There is some character development as well. Characters are interesting and there are no unnecessary scenes. Though, at times, the story is very predictable. Sound/Music: 7/10 I thought the soundtrack was okay and it fit each scene well. Sound effects were good, too, but nothing was really outstanding. Visuals: 8/10 The visuals was good and the spirits looked very real, positively adding to the overall experience. Sinister had good shots of the characters. In addition, I thought the special effects looked pretty neat, but some scenes would've needed a little more work. "Feels": 8/10 I did get emotionally invested because Sinister is really terrifying, but I didn't really bond with any of the characters. I was, however, rooting for them to overcome their situation. Furthermore, the spirits themselves will make your hair stand up with fear. As a whole, Sinister is a horrifying experience. Personal Experiences: When I went to watch Sinister, I was like yeah, this is gonna be a just another scary movie, I've seen it all before. Boy was I wrong, it scared the living daylights out of me. I was surprised by the first shots. It just leaves me going "holy cow, so this is what I am in for". It's just disturbing imagery, It's not the last time you're gonna see it. There's not really much I didn't like about this movie but I got home not being able to sleep. Overall Rating: 7.5/10 Would I recommend it? If you're looking for movie that will scare you to death then Sinister is for you. Give it a shot. +Factor is back to tell us about the 2002 adventures of Scooby Doo's gang and the villain who, presumably, would have gotten away with it too if it weren't for those meddling kids.
Scooby-Doo Age Certification: PG Genre: Adventure, Comedy, Mystery Director: Raja Gosnell Writers: James Gunn, Craig Titley Notable Actors: Neil Fanning Released: June 14 2002 Synopsis: After an acrimonious break up, the Mystery Inc. gang are individually brought to an island resort to investigate strange goings on. Review Acting: 4/10 The characters weren't themselves in the movie, either they would super mad at each other or just be mean spirited to everyone, unlike the original characters from the show. Writing: 1/10 The writing is the complete opposite of who the Scooby Doo characters really are. In the film, they're written to be mean spirited and just plain unlikeable. Also, none of the scenes were really all that funny at all and the jokes were poorly made in my opinion. Sound/Music: 7/10 (This is the only positive thing about this movie) I liked the chase scene's song, it was pretty catchy and I liked it, it improved a bad movie but really didn't save the movie either. Visuals: 1/10 The CGI was god awful, it was poorly made and a 3 year old could make it look better, the monsters looked so disgustingly unrealistic it almost made me wanna turn off the movie. The CGI for Scooby was pretty bad as well. None of the CGI blends in with the environment. Just overall bad and looked like it was taken out of the garbage. "Feels": 1/10 The characters were so mean spirited it's not even funny. The characters' actions were never justified at all and everyone seemed to ignore the gang being huge jerks to everyone. It's not appealing and it's not funny when a protagonist is being a jerk to people, at all! Personal Experiences: [MAJOR PLOT SPOILERS] I hated all of this movie, the characters were horribly made, the CGI for the monsters were terrible to look at, and to top it off it wasn't funny at all, just mean spirited and dreadful in every sort. It was very anti-climatic when the villain was Scrappy Doo. Also, speaking of Scrappy Doo, he was kicked out and left in the middle of nowhere in the film, a great example of how mean spirited it is. Would I recommend it? Not at all, this movie is garbage and it makes fun of what Scooby Doo really is. Overall Rating: 2.3/10 A spit on the original classic |
