INTERVIEW#Limbo HenGoku is back with another film review Genre: Action, Comedy
Age Certification: Rated R Directer: Evan Goldberg, Seth Rogen Writer(s): Dan Sterling, Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg, Dan Sterling Notable Actor(s): James Franco, Seth Rogen, Randall ParK Release Information: 24 December 2014, English Plot Outline: Dave Skylark and producer Aaron Rapoport run the celebrity tabloid show "Skylark Tonight." When they land an interview with a surprise fan, North Korean dictator Kim Jong-un, they are recruited by the CIA to turn their trip to Pyongyang into an assassination mission. Review Acting 7/10: The actinf in the movie was pretty great. I liked the chemistry James Franco and Seth Rogan had in this film, I felt like they both fit their roles perfectly. Although I felt like some could have done better in the movie. But they all made their characters likable for what they were, so that's good. Writing 7/10: The story of this movie is interesting and the characters are introduced. I thought the jokes in the movie were really funny but then it started getting repetitive. Also, the film slows down at ibe point, too, but then picks back up. There are no unnecessary scenes. Soundtrack 9/10: The soundtrack this movie is really good to the point where I actually started listening to some of it on a regular. It also fit each scene perfectly and even made the comedic moments even funnier Visuals 9/10: Visuals were pretty good and it added to overall experience Feels 7/10: In a way, I liked the friendship James Franco's and Randall ParK's characters had. I thought it was pretty touching. I didn't really bond with the characters either. Movie is very funny thouh. Personal Experiences: I honestly could not help but look forward to the movie. One of things I liked about the movie is the chemistry between James Franco and Seth Rogan because of the contrast between the two. I can't really think of any negatives about the movie aside from the repetitive jokes. This movie was raunchy and very hysterical. I didn't really need to happen but I'm glad it did. In the end, I thought it was pretty decent. Overall Rating 7/10 Decent Would I recommend it? All I can say is know what you're getting into. This team has made films in the past, if you didn't like them then is film is not your cup of tea. Captain Amurica with yet another move review Toy Story 3Genre: Animated, Adventure, Comedy
Age Certification: G Director: Lee Unkrich Writers: Lee Unkrich, Andrew Stanton, John Lasseter Notable Actors: Tom Hanks, Tim Allen, Joan Cusack, Ned Beatty, Don Rickles, Michael Keaton, Wallace Shawn, John Ratzenburger, Blake Clark, Estelle Harris, Jodi Benson, John Morris Release: 6/18/10, English Plot Outline: Andy is now 17 years old and hasn't played with his toys in several years. Now, as he's leaving for college, Woody, Buzz, Jessie and the rest are uncertain about their future. REVIEW Acting: 10/10 The original cast of the first two films reprised their roles, which is great because who didn't see Toy Story as a kid and it felt like a true sequel instead of a reboot. The new actors also were great in their new roles, such as Lotso and Ken. Writing: 10/10 The script was written brilliantly for a sequel that is 11 years late. The story was great and was enjoyable to the very end and all the charm from the first two films was, amazingly, still here. Soundtrack: 9/10 The soundtrack in Toy Story 3 is amazing. When the scene is dramatic, so is the music and when it's calm, so is the music. It fit with the scenes very nicely and was just a pleasure to listen to. "Feels": 10/10 **MAJOR PLOT SPOILERS** Toy Story 3 is very childish, as expected, but there are some surprisingly dark scenes such as the scene where they almost got burnt in the furnace or when Lotso was interrogating Buzz. It just felt really well paced and the feels were real. Personal Experience: As someone who grew up watching the Toy Story films and Pixar in general, this movie had all the charm, wit, and personality that made the first two so enjoyable. This is one of the better Pixar movies to have come out in the last 5 years and is DEFINITELY worth watching. Overall Rating: 10/10 Captain Amurica Brings us another movie review Wreck-It RalphGenre: Animated, Adventure, Comedy
Age Certification: PG Director: Rich Moore Writers: Jennifer Lee, Phil Johnston Notable actors: John C. Reilly, Sarah Silverman, Jack McBrayer, Jane Lynch Release: 11/2/13, English Plot Outline: After the 30th anniversary of his game, Wreck-It Ralph, the antagonist of retro arcade game Fix-It Felix Jr, starts to dislike being a bad guy and tries to change his life. Review Acting: 9/10 I feel like the voices of all the characters were done well and fit with their personality nicely. Writing: 9/10 The script was fantastic, with a surprisingly enjoyable story. It shows that Wreck-it-Ralph is more than just a love letter to gamers. Soundtrack: 8/10 The music in Wreck-it-Ralph is really fitting and there were a bunch of good tracks, some of which were themed around a retro video game, which was a nice addition. Visuals: 9/10 The animation is really nice. It's colourful and cartoony and it's a pleasure to look at. "Feels": 10/10 Wreck-it-Ralph has surprisingly dark moments which contributed to the overall feels of the movie and I really felt bad for Ralph and Vanellope. Personal Experience: When Wreck-it-Ralph first aired, I was starting to grow out of Disney movies because I didn't enjoy Brave and Cars 2 as much as the others, so I was skeptical going into it, but as a gamer and a fan of movies in general I really liked it and it's better than Brave, Cars 2, and Monsters University. Still, it can't hold up to the best of Disney (That would be The Lion King). Overall Rating: 9/10 Would I recommend it? I would recommend it to anyone who's a fan of animated movies, Disney movies, and to people who play video games because it's more than just a love letter to gamers but it's a well written movie with heart, humour, and a really good story that can appeal to all ages. +Factor with another movie review The Inbetweeners 2 Genre: Comedy
Age Certification: Rated R Directors: Damon Beesley, Iain Morris Writers: Damon Beesley, Iain Morris Notable Actors: Simon Bird, James Buckley, Blake Harrison, Joe Thomas Release Date: 8/6/2014 Synopsis: Jay, Neil, Simon, and Will reunite in Australia for a holiday. Review Acting: 10/10 I loved how the four friends made their characters lovable, enjoyable, and gave themselves their own charm that added to the overall experience of the film. Writing: 10/10 Everything that was written (except for one line) was absolutely spectacular. There were no unnecessary scenes and almost no awkward and unfunny moments in the movie. The story is very simple, but that simplicity doesn't take away from the overall quality. Soundtrack: 6/10 The soundtrack that was used wasn't really meant to be relied on to add to the experience to the movie, not much here. Visuals: 6/10 Again, not much here since this movie doesn't rely on the visuals. "Feels": 10/10 I was very interested in the characters, they gave their own beneficial charm to the film. They avoided all types of cliches regarding how they would deal with the things that happen to them. I could bond with the characters very well, knowing how well they were described throughout the movie. I felt very happy after watching this movie and I'll never forget the experience I had with it. Personal Experience: I had lots of fun watching The Inbetweeners 2. I really loved seeing the gang on a new adventure and seeing them handle the problems that come their way in the usual way they confront them while keeping their characters perfectly. Would I recommend it? Yes, this is a very good movie and is exemplary in how comedies should be. Overall Rating: 9/10 A comedy diamond in the haystack. Where the remake failed, the original did everything right. Here's the review for The Inbetweeners by +Factor
The Inbetweeners (UK Version) Age Certification: TV-14 Genre: Comedy Director: Ben Palmer Writers: Iain Morris, Damon Beesley Run Time: 2008-2012 Synopsis: The exploits of four friends, who are socially only marginally above what one of them calls "the freaks", are presented as they grow from their late teen years into adults and as they go on their quest, usually unsuccessfully, for such grown up things as beer and sex. Review Acting: 10/10 I believe the acting was very well done here. Very believable characters that were easy to like and understand. Writing: 10/10 I loved the cringe comedy in The Inbetweeners. It's not very easy to do cringe comedy and most of the time people end up failing, but here it's done correctly and it's really funny. There weren't any filler scenes really, all the scenes had influence on the plot in the long run. Sound/Music: 7.5/10 For what it's worth, the soundtrack is pretty decent. The intro theme is really catchy and set an overall nice tone for the show. None of the sounds are overly comedic and annoying, they don't give away any of the comedic moments either. Visuals: 6/10 This is based solely on the dialogue. So there's not much to say about the visuals. "Feels": 10/10 The characters were easy to bond with and are very likable. I felt really happy when watching The Inbetweeners and got emotionally invested with the characters. Personal Experiences: In spite of The Inbetweeners being a bit short, I enjoyed all of it. All the characters were lots of fun, the cringe humor was very good and the show made me want to see more of that. It's truly a gem of comedy that was short lived but will never be forgotten. Would I recommend it? Yeah, it's really funny, the show s great plots for each episode and the characters are very enjoyable. Overall Rating: 8.3/10 A must for comedy fans. Our very own #Calyxium took to the cinema to watch the new Marvel blockbuster Guardians Of The Galaxy. Let's see if it holds up to the criticism of TVBF's finest.
Despite being a huge Marvel, superhero, and sci-fi fan, I regarded the buzz for Guardians of the Galaxy with a lot of scepticism. Two of the heroes are a giant tree and a talking raccoon, for goodness' sake, and I consider myself well past the age when it is appropriate to find anthropomorphic foliage and furry critters charming. Imagine my chagrin, therefore, when I find myself forced to say that the walking plant and the talking raccoon really do steal the show. Guardians of the Galaxy Genre: Comedy, Adventure, Sci-Fi, Action. Age Certification: PG-13 / 12A. Director: James Gunn. Writers: James Gunn, Nicole Perlman, based on the comic book by Dan Abnett and Andy Lanning. Notable Actors: Bradley Cooper, Vin Diesel, Chris Pratt, Dave Bautista, Zoe Saldana. Released: 31st July 2014, English. Plot Outline: Light years from Earth, 26 years after being abducted, Peter Quill - an intergalactic scavenger and outlaw - finds he's bitten off more than he can chew when his newest score is being hunted by the terrifying Ronan the Accuser. Review Acting: 6.8/10 The acting in this film is incredibly polarized. On the one hand, the performance Bradley Cooper gives for his character is outstanding. Rocket, ironically, is by far the most believable, human character and Cooper delivers perfectly. Likewise, against all odds Vin Diesel (playing a sentient tree!) manages to bring the character of Groot to life and make him seem considerably more human than any of the human characters, although how much of that is Vin Diesel and how much is excellent CG1, I have no idea. Chris Pratt as Peter Quill does the best he can with the writing he's given, and pulls off most of the comic moments very well. In contrast, Zoe Saldana's performance is flat and mediocre, Lee Pace as Ronan is another pedestrian supervillain with confused and unclear motives, and does nothing to inject life or menace into his character. Michael Rooker, best known for his role on The Walking Dead, gives an astonishingly poor performance, over-acting to the point of disbelief, and delivering one cringe-worthy cheesy moment after another. It's all downhill from there, with the rest of the supporting cast only adding to the embarrassing cheese-fest. Writing: 5.6/10 When the writing is good, it's wonderful, but when it's bad, it's dreadful. This is a long entry, so I'm splitting it into sections to score individually.
Sound/Music: 8/10 Although the music wasn't to my personal taste, it was a plot point and the music selections and timing perfectly punctuated the tone of the film, and of certain action sequences, as well as adding to the character of Peter Quill. Visuals: 10/10 I'd like to rate this higher. This was, without doubt, the best visual cinematic experience I've had. Avatar at the IMAX, eat your heart out. I saw this in 3D and was impressed by just how much 3D technology has improved in the last couple of years. The special effects were magnificent, the CGI and costuming were absolutely perfect, which was of particular importance in adding emotional depth to the characters of Rocket and Groot. Beyond that, the visual design for characters, costumes, ships and objects, and in particular the huge settings and starscapes were absolutely breathtaking. They were ingenious, creative, colourful and stunningly beautiful. "Feels": 3/10 Feels is something I really look for in a film. I want to emotionally connect with the characters, care about them, worry for them, hurt with them. I didn't get that here. This could partially be because I had part of the film spoiled for me before I watched it, but when that scene came I thought it was handled clunkily at first. There was only one moment when I actually connected with a character and felt something beyond the general humour and fun of the film. Personal Experience: [MILD PLOT SPOILERS] So far, this review has been pretty critical. I should stress that I hugely enjoyed this film, and I had a great time watching it. If I was only scoring "comedy", "fun", and "visuals" it'd be a resounding 10/10. Unfortunately that's not the case, and the film does have its problems. In spite of that, however, it's extremely fun to watch with non-stop, beautifully choreographed action, genuinely funny humour, absolutely amazing visuals, and some really great characters. I particularly enjoyed the ships that connected together to form the huge shield, and the visual design of Knowhere was as ingenious as it was gorgeous. While the outlaw crew of space cowboys isn't a new idea (*coughFireflycough*) it's still an incredibly fun premise to watch, and a nice change from the previous Marvel films. I was hoping to connect more emotionally with it, but the only moment I did, and consequently my favourite part of the film was watching Rocket have a vulnerable moment when he expresses his frustration at being constantly reviewed as a rodent when he had no control over his creation. This film set-up events for future Marvel films, and I will be really excited to see the Guardians of the Galaxy return, and see them tackle Thanos with the Avengers. I spent almost every moment of the film delighted, either by the action sequences, stunning design and visuals, or laughing. The moments that I didn't, however, I was cringing at the awful support characters, confused by the plot holes or annoyed by the lazy writing of poorer characters or character decisions that didn't make sense. Would you recommend this movie to others? I'd definitely recommend this film to others. Although I suspect it was aimed at a younger audience, and I missed some of the humour, there was plenty for adults to enjoy. It certainly wasn't perfect, but in spite of its flaws it was incredibly enjoyable, a 2 hour fun-fest of action, genuinely funny humour and the most breathtakingly-stunning visuals I've ever seen. I'd recommend it based on the visuals alone, but the film also brings plenty of fun, a couple of genuinely loveable characters and a lot of humour as well. Overall Rating: 6.7/10 Averaged from above scores. However, as I said, this film was incredibly enjoyable and I'd certainly recommend seeing it. The adventurous +Factor has seen yet another TV show he'd like to share with us: Rick and Morty.
Rick and Morty Genre: Animation, Adventure, Comedy Age Certification: TV-14 Creators: Dan Harmon, Justin Roiland Notable Actors: Dan Harmon, Justin Roiland Run Time: 2013- Synopsis: An animated series that follows the exploits of a super scientist and his not so bright grandson. Review Acting: 10/10 I really loved Rick in this show. He acted like a real grandfather would and they make him really funny as well, the timing for the characters and their jokes are spot on and perfect. I always want to hear another line from all of them after they finish one. Writing: 10/10 The characters are very well written and all the jokes are very funny, well written and all around enjoyable and Rick and Morty never gets boring. There's not much confusion or a lot of plot holes either. Sound/Music: 8/10 There's not much of a soundtrack here but when it's used, it's used very well. In addition, the opening intro has a really cool song to match the tone of the show perfectly. The sound effects that are used sound very realistic and not annoying at all. Visuals: 10/10 The animation used here is very well made. It's very smooth, and it really catches my eye. The way the artists make the characters is really cool and creative. Many of the villains look really cool and spell creativity and eye candy to viewers. "Feels": 10/10 I could bond with the characters easily. All of them are likable and weren't ever annoying and hateful, I could easily understand their motives. I felt very happy watching this show and very eager to watch episode after episode, overall great characters to work with. Personal Experiences: I had lots of fun with this show. The adventures Rick and Morty go on are just entertaining to see and it's a great experience to see them go on those adventures. Also, the two have a great relationship that was proven to exist in an episode. Rick is easily my favorite character in this show. He's funny, and a cool grandfather anyone would want to have live with them in my opinion. I'd like to thank Greenlean once again for recommending this show. Would I recommend it? Yeah, if you like Sci-Fi, Comedy, and Adventure you will enjoy this show without a doubt. Overall Rating: 9.7/10 +Factor is back to tell us about the 2002 adventures of Scooby Doo's gang and the villain who, presumably, would have gotten away with it too if it weren't for those meddling kids.
Scooby-Doo Age Certification: PG Genre: Adventure, Comedy, Mystery Director: Raja Gosnell Writers: James Gunn, Craig Titley Notable Actors: Neil Fanning Released: June 14 2002 Synopsis: After an acrimonious break up, the Mystery Inc. gang are individually brought to an island resort to investigate strange goings on. Review Acting: 4/10 The characters weren't themselves in the movie, either they would super mad at each other or just be mean spirited to everyone, unlike the original characters from the show. Writing: 1/10 The writing is the complete opposite of who the Scooby Doo characters really are. In the film, they're written to be mean spirited and just plain unlikeable. Also, none of the scenes were really all that funny at all and the jokes were poorly made in my opinion. Sound/Music: 7/10 (This is the only positive thing about this movie) I liked the chase scene's song, it was pretty catchy and I liked it, it improved a bad movie but really didn't save the movie either. Visuals: 1/10 The CGI was god awful, it was poorly made and a 3 year old could make it look better, the monsters looked so disgustingly unrealistic it almost made me wanna turn off the movie. The CGI for Scooby was pretty bad as well. None of the CGI blends in with the environment. Just overall bad and looked like it was taken out of the garbage. "Feels": 1/10 The characters were so mean spirited it's not even funny. The characters' actions were never justified at all and everyone seemed to ignore the gang being huge jerks to everyone. It's not appealing and it's not funny when a protagonist is being a jerk to people, at all! Personal Experiences: [MAJOR PLOT SPOILERS] I hated all of this movie, the characters were horribly made, the CGI for the monsters were terrible to look at, and to top it off it wasn't funny at all, just mean spirited and dreadful in every sort. It was very anti-climatic when the villain was Scrappy Doo. Also, speaking of Scrappy Doo, he was kicked out and left in the middle of nowhere in the film, a great example of how mean spirited it is. Would I recommend it? Not at all, this movie is garbage and it makes fun of what Scooby Doo really is. Overall Rating: 2.3/10 A spit on the original classic Since he wasn't busy with the Occupy movement, %Limbo Hengoku took his time to tell us all about The Wolf of Wall Street
The Wolf Of Wall Street Genre: Comedy, Drama, Biographical Film Age Certification: Rated R Director: Martin Scorsese Writers: Terence Winter, based on The Wolf of Wall Street by Jordan Belfort Notable Actors: Leonardo DiCaprio, Jonah Hill, Margot Robbie, Matthew McConaughey, Kyle Chandler, Rob Reiner, Jon Favreau, Jean Dujardin Release: 12/25/2013, English Plot Outline: Based on the true story of Jordan Belfort, from his rise to a wealthy stock-broker living the good life to his fall involving crime, corruption and the federal government. Review Acting: 10/10 Everyone did a great job in The Wolf of Wall Street and they were really believable. Leonardo DiCaprio was especially outstanding, as was the supporting cast. The characters were funny and very likable. Writing: 10/10 The Wolf of Wall Street is really well written. The story is very interesting and the characters are introduced beautifully. In addition, it had some good character development. The dialogue was really engaging, funny and had many quotable parts. There are no unnecessary scenes. Sound/Music: 8/10 The soundtrack was decent. There wasn't really much but every time it did play it fit the scene perfectly and influenced it positively. Visuals: 6/10 The Wolf of Wall Street is dialogue based so the visuals did not have as much of an impact. It did, however, have good shots of the characters and scenery. Some parts looked kind of weird but all things considered, the visuals were above average. "Feels": 7/10 The Wolf of Wall Street is really funny. I didn't really bond with any of the characters, but there were some moments where I did feel bad for some of them. It had me happy for the entire time. Personal Experiences: I really liked Leonardo DiCaprio because he's so energetic and I even felt energized while watching him. I just enjoyed his ambition and it was great seeing his empire grow. I mean he’s a dick for sure but he’s so ambitious and I couldn’t help not being on board with him while he pursues his endeavours. He even makes a statement about how he lived this lavish life and wanted to make sure his troops see it so they would aspire to have the same life. And in that same sense, The Wolf of Wall Street was doing the same for me. I’m watching it it makes me want to be like that. The first two thirds are my favorite part because that’s its build-up and ambition and I see Jordan Belfort's drive. I can't find anything I didn't like about The Wolf of Wall Street. It kept me constantly entertained throughout the entire time. Overall Rating: 8/10 Would I recommend it? Yes I would because this movie is a fun time and You will enjoy it. It's really worth the shot. Factor is back and reads us a page from the Diary of a Wimpy Kid
Diary of a Wimpy Kid Genre: Comedy, Family Age Certification: PG Director: Thor Freudenthal Writers: Jackie Filgo, Jeff Filgo, Gabe Sachs, Jeff Judah Notable Actors: Robert Capron, Devon Bostick Release: 3/19/2010, English Plot Outline: Live-action adaptation of Jeff Kinney's illustrated novel about a wise-cracking sixth grade student. Review Acting: 6/10 I liked some scenes but sometimes it got too mean-spirited at times and I just didn't like it as much as some of the other scenes that did slightly better. Not much of the movie was all that funny and Greg and Rowley don't connect with each other as friends unlike the book where they are great friends. Writing: 4/10 There were some unnecessary scenes that felt like it looked like something good would happen, but really nothing really good happened to the main protagonist and it ended up not being all that funny in the end. I didn't really like how Patty was written, she sounded really annoying and just unlikable in every sense and nothing bad ever happens to her. That's what a movie should do if there's an antagonist. Sound/Music: 4/10 Most of the songs played in the movie aren't really set correctly and there could've been much better choices made then to chose very cheesy ones from the 80's and such. Visuals: 1/10 There weren't any visuals that really added to the experience to this movie. Actually, there were no visuals, so not much here. "Feels": 1/10 I don't think that Greg was well played in this movie. I found Rowley to do the stupidest things sometimes, even a dog would know not to do what he did. It didn't really add to the comedy that was already dead in this movie. I didn't bond with the characters because they're either bland or annoying painful to see them in the film. Personal Experiences: [MINOR PLOT SPOILERS] Well, I didn't enjoy it. The film wasn't really all that funny and sometimes when it tried to be funny it seemed that it got very mean spirited instead. Some scenes you can tell were just plain stupid and wasn't really meant to be there in the first place. I didn't feel like the scene where Rowley got a new best friend, because it didn't really go anywhere to begin with. Also, there could've been ways to make some of the unnecessary scenes much better. For example, when Greg needed to hide himself from the red truck he could've easily faced his back towards the truck and that would've been fine. Would I recommend it? No not really, but I do recommend the book instead. It's much better and the unnecessary scenes in the movie aren't in the book Overall Rating: 4/10 Read the books they're much better. |
