#Limbo HenGoku is back with his take on a bluford series book SECRETS IN THE SHADOWSShelves: Drama, Realistic-Fiction, Romance
Age Range: Young Adult Author(s): Anne Schraff, Paul Langan Series: The Bluford Series Published: December 1st 2001, English Pages: 126 Synposis: This book focuses on Roylin Bailey, a Bluford sophomore who appears in A Matter of Trust. Roylin makes a terrible mistake: He steals money to buy a gift for the girl of his dreams and finds himself in a nightmare he cannot escape. Review Plot 10/10: I thought the plot of the book was very well contructed, engaging, and enjoyable pverall. There isn't anything left out in the book. All elements that this book had were skilfully brought together for a satisfying conclusion. Pacing 9/10: Story overall was not too fast and not too slow. It did at a point slow down a bit but then quickly picks up. I was engaged throughout the entire book, not wanting to put it down. Characters 10/10: The characters in this book are very likable and believable. Like the way they react to things is the same way people would react in real life. I did feel sympathy towards the main character though. I was very engaged with them and could not help but root for them to get out of what they're in and achieve what they wanted to achieve. They're all full developed. Writing 10/10: This book was really well written. There weren't really any grammar errors or sentences that ran too long. The sentences were long enough in fact. Wasn't too descriptive either. I found nothing wrong with the writting for this book Feels 10/10: I actually felt for the characters in the book. I felt bad for the situation they were in and wanted them to get out. I could relate to the characters in the book and what happened to them. Personal experiences: This book is one of my most favorite books of all time. Things that happen in this book really happens in real life. The only problem I had with this book was when it ended.... as in when I hit the final page of it. This book was intriguing, relatable, and the characters were likable for what they were. I honestly can't find any negatives about this book. Overall rating: 9.5/10 READ IT! Would I recommend this book? I recommend this book to everyone because I feel like everyone should read it at least once. BREAKING BAD#Limbo HenGoku with a review on the well known series Breaking Bad Genre: Crime, Drama, Thriller Age certification: Rated R Directer: Vince Gilligan Writer(s): Vince Gilligan Notable actor(s): Bryan Cranston, Aaron Paul, RJ Mitte, Anna Gunn Release Information: January 20, 2008 - September 29, 2013, English Plot Outline: A chemistry teacher diagnosed with a terminal lung cancer, teams up with his former student, Jesse Pinkman, to cook and sell crystal meth Review Acting 10/10: The acting in this movie is probably one of the best acting I have ever seen. Bryan Cranston kills it as Walter White. There's a reason why he won an emmy for each season. Aaron Paul also did a good job in the show. Everyone in this show brought their A game. The acting was very believable and made the characters likable for what they were and made them hateble for what they were. Writing 10/10: I thought the writing in the movie was flawless as well. The story is very intriguing and the characters are introduced. There is some very good character development in this show as well. I would say that there was one unnecessary episode but even it was enjoyable to watch. The dailog is very good, too. Soundtrack 10/10: I thought the soundtrack in the movie was pretty good and that it fit each scene perfectly. I don't remember much being played but I know I liked it a lot. Especially the opening intro. Visuals 10/10: This show looks pretty good and I thought everything looked real. The blood looks real, the gun fights look real, everything was eye candy. The visuals added to overall expereince Feels 10/10: I was very emotionally invested in the movie. I really felt for Aaron Paul's charater, Jessie Pinkman. The things he was going through, the amount of loses he had was just sad to me. Personal Experiences: This a really good show. First of all, I like how they show the main characters decline to villainy, I thought they did that really well. My favorite character throughout the entire show is Jessie Pinkman. I thought he was pretty badass. You know how some shows had bad seasons? Not this one. This show literally gets better and darker each season. There are no bad seasons what so ever. There is absolutely nothing I did not like about this show. Overall Rating 10/10 Amazing Would I recommend it? Of course I would recommend one of the best dramas ever made. If you have not seen this show, what're you doing? WHIPLASH #Limbo HenGoku is back with yet another movie review Genre: Drama, Music

The acting was very believable and made the characters likable for what they were. Writing 9/10: I thought the writing in this movie was pretty good. The story of the movie is interesting, the characters are introduced and also had some good development. The dialogue in the movie was pretty nice, too. It's not a fast pace though. There are no unnecessary scenes. Soundtrack 8/10: The soundtrack in the movie was good to listen to, I found myself tapping my feet every time the characters were performing. Visuals 8/10: I thought everything in the movie looked great. It had good camera angles and all. It indeed added to overall experience. Feels 10/10: I was emotionally invested in this movie. It's very, very intense. You can't help but feel bad for Miles Teller's character in the movie. I just wanted him to succeed and endure what he was going through. Personal Experiences: This is quite possibly the most intense film I have ever seen to date. I have not bitten my nails as hard as I did for any other movie the way I did for this one. The more I think about this movie, the better it gets. There is absolutely nothing I did not like about this movie. Overall rating 8.5/10 Watch it Would I recommend it? I definitely recommend a movie like this because it's truly good. Honest to god this movie will sink its claws into you. I'll say if you have anxiety problems and don't like it when someone is giving someone else grief then this might be a negative for you. However, it's probably what this movie is going for anyway. Still watch imo Hi, #Limbo HenGoku here. I'm here to give you my first experience on a Bollywood movie Lagaan: Once Upon a Time in IndiaGenre: Adventure, Drama, Musical

Review Acting 8/10: I thought the acting in this movie was pretty good. Aamir Khan did his role perfectly as Bhuvan in the film. The reast were pretty decent but times I just could not buy the acting. Writing 9/10: I thought the writting in the movie was pretty good. Film at time felt like it was dragging on though. There aren't really any unnecessary scenes in the movie either. Soundtrack 10/10: The music in the movie is so catchy, I can't help but tap my feet to it when it plays. The soundtrack was very enjoyable. Visuals 6/10: Movie was pretty much dailogue heavy so visuals didn't have much to offer. Although, I thought everything looked awesome in the movie. Feels 8/10: The feels in this movie was pretty great. I didn't really relate to any of the characters in the movie. I did however was rooting for them in the movie. Personal experiences: Not gonna lie, when I saw that this movie was close to four hours long, I was kind of on the fence about it. But now I don't regret watching it all. close to 4 hours of constant intrigue. The movie is only long because of the soundtrack but I didn't even need to skip them because I thought it was so well done and fun to watch. This is the first bolywood film I had ever seen and it really got me. Overall Rating 8/10 Would i recommend it? Yes, I will recommend this movie to anyone who are interested in venturing in bolywood for the first time. nearly 4 hours of constant intrigue, won't disappoint TTPK Tal reviews one of his all-time favourites, the highly successful and critically acclaimed The Dark Knight. The Dark KnightMovie: The Dark Knight
Genre: Action, Adventure, Drama, Thriller Director: Christopher Nolan Age Certification: PG-13 Writers: Jonathan Nolan, Christopher Nolan, David S. Goyer Notable Actors: Heath Ledger, Chrisitian Bale, Morgan Freeman, Michael Caine, Gary Oldman, Aaron Eckhart Release: 2008 (Various), English Plot Outline: The Dark Knight shows how the Batman's presence in Gotham City has also allowed for the rise of criminals such as the Joker and the clash of their different mentalities. REVIEW Acting: 10/10 Even though Christian Bale's Batman is one of the worst, he is, in my opinion, the best Bruce Wayne ever, supplemented with strong performances by Michael Caine as Alfred, Morgan Freeman as Lucius Fox and outstanding ones by Gary Oldman and Aaron Eckhart. But it's time to get to the real star, Heath Ledger. He is the best Joker to exist on screen, with one of the finest performances on film ever. He sold his role as The Joker and this can be terrifyingly real for some people. Writing: 10/10 The script was brilliant for a dark superhero movie. The story was great, thrilling and had The Batman in ruins at times, offering great action, great plot progression and adequate pacing. The Nolan brothers' screenplay along with Nolan's and Goyer's adaptation of the comic book story is very well done. The Dark Knight does have some minor flaws like the opening scene and the hospital scene being forgotten quickly. Directing: 10/10 Nolan is a unique director, but he has things he always does like the disjointed story telling. Here, however, it fully works. Every time I rewatch, I see something new in the movie that I haven't seen before. Nolan directed The Dark Knight amazingly. Soundtrack: 8/10 The sound assets are great, but the soundtrack for the motion picture isn't particularly noteworthy. While not being bad, it's not great either and it's not something I'd go and listen to in my free time. Visuals: 10/10 The action is amazing, thrilling, constantly moving, perfectly paced and looks amazing. The disturbingly high budget helped alot with that. "Feels": 10/10 **MINOR PLOT SPOILERS** In The Dark Knight, you really feel the mental issues that both the main characters, villains and the characters to become villains are all really relatable with their own tragedies and character development. I can even relate to the Joker. Personal experience: The Dark Knight is my 10th favorite film. While I do see its flaws, like the bullshit ending, it still is an amazing movie you can watch solely for Heath Ledger's performance as The Joker. Seeing this movie and counting 16 times, not getting sick of even a single moment really means it's great for rewatching. Overall rating: The Dark Knight gets a 10/10. Would I recommend to others: Very much so. The serial reviewist %Limbo Hengoku is back, this time reviewing Quentin Tarantino's masterpiece Pulp Fiction.
Pulp Fiction Genre: Crime, Drama, Thriller Age Certification: Rated R Director: Quentin Tarantino Writers: Roger Avary, Quentin Tarantino Notable Actors: John Travolta, Samuel L. Jackson, Uma Thurman, Harvey Keitel, Tim Roth, Amanda Plummer Release: 10/14/1994, English Plot Outline: The lives of two mob hit men, a boxer, a gangster's wife, and a pair of diner bandits intertwine in four tales of violence and redemption. Review Acting: 10/10 The acting was excellent and very believable. Everyone in this movie did a great job and they were enjoyable to watch. Writing: 10/10 The story of Pulp Fiction is interesting and the characters are introduced. There was some good character development as well. The dialogue in Pulp Fiction is really well written and it's very quotable as well. There are no unnecessary scenes in this movie. Sound/Music: 10/10 I thought the soundtrack was really good and fit each scene perfectly. Visuals: 7/10 The visuals for Pulp Fiction are great. It had good shots of the characters and scenery, but it is mostly dialogue dependent, so the visuals weren't outstanding in any way. "Feels": 7/10 I didn't really get emotionally invested. However, I could relate to Bruce Willis's character because I would react the same way if I was in similar circumstances. Pulp Fiction as a whole was really engrossing and it had me happy the entire time. It was kind of funny, too. Personal Experiences: [PLOT SPOILERS] Pulp Fiction is amazing, from the get go, I knew what I was in for. Great dialogue, a lot of racial slurs and obscure originality. Whenever you see a movie that has a lot of racial slurs and nobody gets upset over it, that tells you that the writing is really good. One thing I liked about it was that it wasn't in chronological order. Instead, the chapters were all mixed up in a really stylistic kind of way. Half the fun after I was done watching it, was piecing everything together. Another thing I enjoyed were the characters, they were fantastic. My favorite is Jules. I honestly cannot think of any negatives for this movie. Overall Rating: 8/10 Would I recommend it? Yeah, I would recommend this movie because it's very entertaining. If you like great dialogue in movies you will love Pulp Fiction. Staff member and dog owner %Limbo Hengoku brings you this next review for the touching Hachi: A Dog's Tale
Hachi: A Dog's Tale Genre: Family, Drama Age Certification: General audience Director: Lasse Hallström Writers: Stephen P. Lindsey, Based on Hachi-kō by Kaneto Shindô Notable Actors: Richard Gere, Joan Allen, Hachi is portrayed by three dogs: Chico, Layla, and Forrest. Release: 6/13/2009, English Plot Outline: A drama based on the true story of a college professor's bond with the abandoned dog he takes into his home. Review Acting: 8/10 The acting was good and believable. Richard Gere was good, but at times he was not believable. The same goes for everybody else. In addition, I found Jason Alexander to be quite funny. Writing: 9/10 The story is interesting and the characters are introduced properly. There was decent character development as well, with no unnecessary scenes. In addition, the dialogue was decent. Sound/Music: 7/10 The soundtrack of Hachi is good and it positively influenced each scene, especially the sad ones. The sound effects weren't outstanding in any way. Visuals: 6/10 Hachi: A Dog's Tale is dialogue based so the visuals are less important. However, there was one scene that I thought looked cool. Furthermore, there were good shots of the characters and scenery. All in all, everything looked decent. "Feels": 10/10 I was really emotionally invested because Hachi: A Dog's Tale is really touching. As a dog owner I really bonded with Hachi and his owner. I almost shed tears because I really felt bad for the dog for the second half of the movie. As a whole, Hachi: A Dog's Tale is really touching and a tear jerker. You're gonna shed tears watching this movie, trust me. Personal Experiences: As a dog owner, I really related to Hachi. I was really intrigued with the relationship between the dog and his owner. I was watching with my dog and the whole second half I kept holding him tight. Near the end of the movie was probably thesaddest moment of the movie and I really bad for Hachi. One thing this movie taught me is to never forget someone you're close to. In addition, I liked how they took the dog perspective of things, as it made me feel more attached to him. There's nothing I did not like about this movie and I wished it was released in theaters. Overall rating: 7.5/10 Would I recommend it? Yes I would because this movie truly is good. If you're a pet owner like I am you're gonna love and relate to this movie and if you're not, you're still gonna enjoy it. It's worth watching. Our critical critter @Funnelby is back, reviewing another of his favourite 'must see' films, the award-winning City of God.
City of God Content Disclaimer: City of God is an incredibly brutal movie, with disturbing and violent scenes. If you're not old enough or have a weak stomach, this isn't the right movie for you. Genre: Drama Age Certification: 18/R Directors: Fernando Meirelles, Kátia Lund Writers: Bráulio Mantovani, based on the novel of the same name by Paulo Lins Notable Actors: Alexandre Rodrigues, Leandro Firmino, Phellipe Haagensen, Seu Jorge Released: 8/30/2002, Portuguese Plot Outline: City of God tells the story of Buscapé and Li'l Zé, who both grow up in a favela called Cidade de Deus ("City of God"). While Buscapé aspires to become a photographer, Li'l Zé grows up to become a drug dealer. Review Acting: 8/10 The acting in City of God is all around satisfying. Especially Leandro Firmino's portrayal of Li'l Zé is something to remember. With that being said, important scenes could have been more emotional, but that does not stop the acting in City of God from being way above average. Writing: 10/10 I feel that City of God is a masterpiece in writing. The way the story focuses on different characters at different times, with all things flowing neatly into each other makes for an incredible watching experience. The characters are really the strong point of City of God, with each of them receiving a proper introduction and then acting according to the way they were introduced, sometimes terrifyingly though. The sheer brutality strongly contrasts the calmer scenes that mostly involve Buscapé, and brilliantly capture the situation in the favelas of Rio de Janeiro. Sound/Music: 8/10 The soundtrack and sound effects of City of God capture the time and societal situations nicely and further accentuate the great pacing of City of God. However, the music wasn't very memorable. Visuals: 10/10 Not only did City of God have fantastic shots of its characters and the setting in particular, the way it displays both brutal and harmonic scenes in the same style makes for a very depressing experience that leave the viewer baffled and in awe-stricken silence due to the unspeakable things he saw. "Feels": 10/10 At some points, it becomes very hard to keep on watching City of God due to its very shocking scenes. It has a very strong effect on the viewer, who instinctively starts rooting for many characters to reach their goals or at least stay alive. In the same vein, one develops an intense hatred towards the antagonist and desperately wishes for him to stop his rampage. Personal Experience: I did not sleep well after my first viewing of City of God, and it took me a while to sort out what I saw. However, the movie gets better with each consecutive viewing, because it offers so much. Would I recommend it? Most certainly. Everyone of sufficient age who doesn't have a weak stomach should see City of God. Not the review we deserve, but the review we needed comes from %Limbo Hengoku, who saw Batman: The Dark Knight.
Batman: The Dark Knight Genre: Action, Adventure, Drama, Thriller Age Certification: PG-13 Director: Christopher Nolan Writers: Christopher Nolan, David S. Goyer Notable Actors: Christian Bale, Michael Caine, Heath Ledger, Gary Oldman, Aaron Eckhart, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Morgan Freeman Release: 7/14/2008(New York City), 7/18/2008(United States), English Plot Outline: When Batman, Gordon and Harvey Dent launch an assault on the mob, they find themselves confronted with The Joker, who is bent on turning Gotham on itself and bringing any heroes down to his level. Review Acting: 10/10 Everyone nailed it and did a very good job. Heath Ledger as The Joker was excellent and fits his role perfectly. He was so believable that I actually thought he was crazy. Furthermore, Christian Bale as Batman/Bruce Wayne did really well. Writing: 10/10 The story is really interesting. There is some good character development and all around great dialogue. There were no unnecessary scenes. Sound/Music: 10/10 The soundtrack sounded really cool and it fit each every scene. It influenced the moments positively, as did the sound effects. Visuals: 10/10 Everything looked fantastic and the visuals added greatly to the overall experience. Two-Face's burnt left side looked incredibly real. The Dark Knight had good shots of the characters and had some good cinematography as well. "Feels": 9/10 I did get emotionally invested, because there are some sad scenes where you feel sorry for the characters. The one that got me was The Joker. He really sent chills down my spine and I actually believed he was crazy. The movie as a whole was very exciting and I was really happy the entire time. Personal Experiences: The Dark Knight was awesome and I really liked The Joker. My favorite parts are when he tells the story about how he got his scares. Another thing I liked was how Batman just appears and disappears and I thought that he was really bad-ass. My only problem is that they don't show Two-Face long enough. He was cool and I wish he had gotten more screen time. Other than that, The Dark Knight did everything right and did all the characters justice. Overall Rating: 9.5/10 Would I recommend it? Yes I would because this movie is really good and it's something everyone should see at least once. Since he wasn't busy with the Occupy movement, %Limbo Hengoku took his time to tell us all about The Wolf of Wall Street
The Wolf Of Wall Street Genre: Comedy, Drama, Biographical Film Age Certification: Rated R Director: Martin Scorsese Writers: Terence Winter, based on The Wolf of Wall Street by Jordan Belfort Notable Actors: Leonardo DiCaprio, Jonah Hill, Margot Robbie, Matthew McConaughey, Kyle Chandler, Rob Reiner, Jon Favreau, Jean Dujardin Release: 12/25/2013, English Plot Outline: Based on the true story of Jordan Belfort, from his rise to a wealthy stock-broker living the good life to his fall involving crime, corruption and the federal government. Review Acting: 10/10 Everyone did a great job in The Wolf of Wall Street and they were really believable. Leonardo DiCaprio was especially outstanding, as was the supporting cast. The characters were funny and very likable. Writing: 10/10 The Wolf of Wall Street is really well written. The story is very interesting and the characters are introduced beautifully. In addition, it had some good character development. The dialogue was really engaging, funny and had many quotable parts. There are no unnecessary scenes. Sound/Music: 8/10 The soundtrack was decent. There wasn't really much but every time it did play it fit the scene perfectly and influenced it positively. Visuals: 6/10 The Wolf of Wall Street is dialogue based so the visuals did not have as much of an impact. It did, however, have good shots of the characters and scenery. Some parts looked kind of weird but all things considered, the visuals were above average. "Feels": 7/10 The Wolf of Wall Street is really funny. I didn't really bond with any of the characters, but there were some moments where I did feel bad for some of them. It had me happy for the entire time. Personal Experiences: I really liked Leonardo DiCaprio because he's so energetic and I even felt energized while watching him. I just enjoyed his ambition and it was great seeing his empire grow. I mean he’s a dick for sure but he’s so ambitious and I couldn’t help not being on board with him while he pursues his endeavours. He even makes a statement about how he lived this lavish life and wanted to make sure his troops see it so they would aspire to have the same life. And in that same sense, The Wolf of Wall Street was doing the same for me. I’m watching it it makes me want to be like that. The first two thirds are my favorite part because that’s its build-up and ambition and I see Jordan Belfort's drive. I can't find anything I didn't like about The Wolf of Wall Street. It kept me constantly entertained throughout the entire time. Overall Rating: 8/10 Would I recommend it? Yes I would because this movie is a fun time and You will enjoy it. It's really worth the shot. |
