+Factor with another movie review The Inbetweeners 2 Genre: Comedy
Age Certification: Rated R Directors: Damon Beesley, Iain Morris Writers: Damon Beesley, Iain Morris Notable Actors: Simon Bird, James Buckley, Blake Harrison, Joe Thomas Release Date: 8/6/2014 Synopsis: Jay, Neil, Simon, and Will reunite in Australia for a holiday. Review Acting: 10/10 I loved how the four friends made their characters lovable, enjoyable, and gave themselves their own charm that added to the overall experience of the film. Writing: 10/10 Everything that was written (except for one line) was absolutely spectacular. There were no unnecessary scenes and almost no awkward and unfunny moments in the movie. The story is very simple, but that simplicity doesn't take away from the overall quality. Soundtrack: 6/10 The soundtrack that was used wasn't really meant to be relied on to add to the experience to the movie, not much here. Visuals: 6/10 Again, not much here since this movie doesn't rely on the visuals. "Feels": 10/10 I was very interested in the characters, they gave their own beneficial charm to the film. They avoided all types of cliches regarding how they would deal with the things that happen to them. I could bond with the characters very well, knowing how well they were described throughout the movie. I felt very happy after watching this movie and I'll never forget the experience I had with it. Personal Experience: I had lots of fun watching The Inbetweeners 2. I really loved seeing the gang on a new adventure and seeing them handle the problems that come their way in the usual way they confront them while keeping their characters perfectly. Would I recommend it? Yes, this is a very good movie and is exemplary in how comedies should be. Overall Rating: 9/10 A comedy diamond in the haystack. +Factor with another book review The Curious Incident of the Dog In the Night-TimeShelves: Mystery, Contemporary
Age range: Young Adult Author: Mark Haddon Published: May 18 2004 Pages: 226 Synopsis: Christopher John Francis Boone knows all the countries of the world and their capitals and every prime number up to 7,057. He relates well to animals but has no understanding of human emotions. He cannot stand to be touched and he detests the color yellow. Although gifted with a superbly logical brain, for fifteen-year-old Christopher everyday interactions and admonishments have little meaning. He lives on patterns, rules, and a diagram kept in his pocket. Then one day, a neighbor's dog, Wellington, is killed and his carefully constructive universe is threatened. Christopher sets out to solve the murder in the style of his favorite (logical) detective, Sherlock Holmes. What follows makes for a novel that is deeply funny, poignant, and fascinating in its portrayal of a person whose curse and blessing are a mind that perceives the world entirely literally. Review Writing and Characters: 9/10 I liked all the characters in this novel, especially the main character which I could really relate to. He was just like me and I could understand how he does things a lot of the time. He did rarely get annoying but it didn't really ruin the experience and didn't make me not like the main character. The rest of the characters are pretty likable as well and don't get too annoying, or really mean to the main character. Feels: 8/10 I could bond with most of the characters in the novel and their actions were acknowledged as they should've been. Also, the book made me feel really entertained and interested in the main character unlike other books that make the main character blander than white bread and boring. The book went all out with what it used with material which is pretty cool and unpredictable. My Personal Experience I had a fun time reading the book and getting to know the characters was really cool and I had a great read through this book. I liked the choice of illustrations being in the book so I could get clear images of things, also there was no unnecessary filler written in the book. All in all, a great book Would I recommend this? Yes of course, I found it really nice and enjoyable to keep it simple. Give it a shot and see if you like it Overall Rating: 8/10 An interesting book to read. +Factor is having a change of pace, this time reviewing the literary crime classic And Then There Were None by Mistress of Mystery Agatha Christie.
And Then There Were None Shelves: Crime, Thriller Age Range: Adult Author: Agatha Christie Published: 1939 Pages: 264 Synopsis: Ten people, each with something to hide and something to fear, are invited to a lonely mansion on Indian Island by a host who fails to appear but leaves a recording accusing all of undetected murder. Cut off by his orders, one by one each die according to a nursery rhyme Ten Little Indians. A confession in a bottle solves how nobody remains alive. Review Characters: 8-10 I loved all of the characters in this book. I found all of their back stories interesting and it made them very enjoyable to read about. I found it very gripping and wanted to find out more about the character back stories. Writing: 8-10 The book was very well written and I always wanted to know what happened next to each character in the story. Very interesting and enjoyable. There was a small pacing problem in the beginning, but it recovered. "Feels": 10-10 I really bonded with these characters and could get emotionally invested because after what happens in the story I could understand what they did and why they did it. I really loved how the characters changed how their entire personalities and almost went insane because of what was happening on the island. I feel that was very well done, also it happened gradually and it wasn't rushed. Personal Experience: I enjoyed reading this immensely. I found it really cool how the continuous character deaths caused all the characters to go insane and break the trust that they had for one another. It seemed realistic and so believable that it kept me hooked the entire time to see what happened to everyone at the end of the novel. I felt that the epilogue was totally necessary to end the book and subtly reveal the killer. Overall this was an amazing read that was on my summer reading list. Would I Recommend This? Yeah of course. If you're looking for a classic thriller that is very interesting, and has great characters this is the book for you. Overall Rating: 9.5/10 Middleweight reviewer +Factor is taking on the Pay-Per-View WWE Summerslam in our very first sports event review.
WWE Summerslam Genre: Action, Sports Notable Wrestlers: Seth Rollins, Dean Ambrose, Brock Lesnar Released: August 17, 2014 Synopsis: The WWE World Heavyweight Championship is on the line with John Cena defending it against The Beast Incarnate, The 1 in 21, Brock Lesnar. Review Acting: 10/10 All the wrestlers that took part in Summerslam made all of their matches look great and sold all of the moves they got hit with perfectly, it all looked very believable. Writing: 10/10 Everything was written perfectly, who had to win won and I couldn't be more pleased by the outcome, knowing all the feuds the wrestlers had, the matches were written to look like a personal vendetta was really at its peak instead of it being just another match, adding truly incredible drama. "Feels": 8/10 I was very invested in most of the matches in the pay-per-view, a few of the matches didn't get me too interested or make me really care, but the good outweighs the bad entirely. I really liked the main event and I really enjoyed the match with Dean Ambrose vs Seth Rollins, I felt that match was fantastic and I was very excited to see what moves they would pull off, how well their psychology would work, and how great they would look as enemies at Summerslam. Personal Experience: [MAJOR SPOILERS] I had a lot of fun with this PPV. It almost hit perfection and was easily the best PPV of the year so far; it will be very hard to top. I loved that Dolph Ziggler won the IC Championship, and everyone who watched the PPV would agree with me on this. After Ziggler jobbing to everyone for so long, I felt that Dolph winning at Summerslam was the best idea. The Lesnar vs Cena match was amazing, it really showed Lesnar is a huge beast by completely destroying Cena and winning the titles. Overall a phenomenal PPV and everyone should see it when it's possible. Would I recommend it? Yes, all wrestling fans will love this PPV. Overall Rating: 9/10 The best pay-per-view this year by far. Where the remake failed, the original did everything right. Here's the review for The Inbetweeners by +Factor
The Inbetweeners (UK Version) Age Certification: TV-14 Genre: Comedy Director: Ben Palmer Writers: Iain Morris, Damon Beesley Run Time: 2008-2012 Synopsis: The exploits of four friends, who are socially only marginally above what one of them calls "the freaks", are presented as they grow from their late teen years into adults and as they go on their quest, usually unsuccessfully, for such grown up things as beer and sex. Review Acting: 10/10 I believe the acting was very well done here. Very believable characters that were easy to like and understand. Writing: 10/10 I loved the cringe comedy in The Inbetweeners. It's not very easy to do cringe comedy and most of the time people end up failing, but here it's done correctly and it's really funny. There weren't any filler scenes really, all the scenes had influence on the plot in the long run. Sound/Music: 7.5/10 For what it's worth, the soundtrack is pretty decent. The intro theme is really catchy and set an overall nice tone for the show. None of the sounds are overly comedic and annoying, they don't give away any of the comedic moments either. Visuals: 6/10 This is based solely on the dialogue. So there's not much to say about the visuals. "Feels": 10/10 The characters were easy to bond with and are very likable. I felt really happy when watching The Inbetweeners and got emotionally invested with the characters. Personal Experiences: In spite of The Inbetweeners being a bit short, I enjoyed all of it. All the characters were lots of fun, the cringe humor was very good and the show made me want to see more of that. It's truly a gem of comedy that was short lived but will never be forgotten. Would I recommend it? Yeah, it's really funny, the show s great plots for each episode and the characters are very enjoyable. Overall Rating: 8.3/10 A must for comedy fans. +Factor has quite a different view on things. His amazement stayed earthbound when watching Gravity.
Gravity Genre: Sci-fi, Thriller Age Certification: PG-13 Director: Alfonso Cuarón, Jonás Cuarón Writers: Alfonso Cuarón, Jonás Cuarón Notable Actors: Sandra Bullock, George Clooney Release: 10/4/2013 Synopsis: A medical engineer and an astronaut work together to survive after a catastrophe destroys their shuttle and leaves them adrift in orbit. Review Acting: 4/10 I really didn't find really any of the acting appealing at all, especially George Clooney's acting. He had one tone throughout the entire movie and it really bored me to tears. Sandra Bullock, to me, didn't really put up a great performance either. I could tell that her reaction was pretty fake and I found it really funny. Writing: 1/10 I was really disappointed about how the plot was made. I think it could've been written much better than how it is now. Also, the jump scares aren't really all that scary at all. I was not pleased with the writing and it could've been much much better. Also, there ware lots of unnecessary scenes, even a 10 minute scene that was completely pointless. Sound/Music: 7/10 For the many faults Gravity has, it does have a nice soundtrack to it, which helps add an effect to some scenes but not all of them. Visuals: 7/10 I did find the visuals appealing as well. I thought that they captured what space would look like and they did a very good job with it as well. "Feels": 1/10 I couldn't really bond with any of the characters. It's really hard to relate to a character lost in space because, well no one has been lost in space before and I can't see why Sandra Bullock would do some of the things she did in this film. None of the characters were really interesting, George Clooney's character was pretty bland and we get no backstory or anything, basically Sandra Bullock couldn't pull it off for me. Personal Experiences: [MAJOR PLOT SPOILERS] I found this movie to be pretty boring. I didn't like how the film exploited the silence and made it lose value, the silence factor could've been used much better instead of overusing it. Also, I didn't like how the plot was set up, if Houston told you were going to get hit by space debris you might as well get back inside before you die and get back to Earth. I would've liked it much better if they got hit by surprise because I found the way the writers did it to be incredibly illogical. The thing about the death of Sandra Bullock' daughter in this movie sounded so unbelievable and then they completely drop that scene and never focused on it until the very end of the movie. I found it weird that Bullock pressed one button and that she coincidentally pressed the right one. The writers could've made a more dramatic scene if she pressed a few wrong buttons first and then the correct one last. The jump scares weren't good and I don't think jump scares should be in a movie like this. There was really no point as to why George Clooney's character had to die. It was never explained and that was pretty disappointing as to killing off a character that could've had more development in the film for no reason. Would I recommend it? [MAJOR PLOT SPOILERS] Personally no, I found it to be kinda stupid really. The plot setup could've been avoided and killing off characters for no reason is kinda stupid as well. The adventurous +Factor has seen yet another TV show he'd like to share with us: Rick and Morty.
Rick and Morty Genre: Animation, Adventure, Comedy Age Certification: TV-14 Creators: Dan Harmon, Justin Roiland Notable Actors: Dan Harmon, Justin Roiland Run Time: 2013- Synopsis: An animated series that follows the exploits of a super scientist and his not so bright grandson. Review Acting: 10/10 I really loved Rick in this show. He acted like a real grandfather would and they make him really funny as well, the timing for the characters and their jokes are spot on and perfect. I always want to hear another line from all of them after they finish one. Writing: 10/10 The characters are very well written and all the jokes are very funny, well written and all around enjoyable and Rick and Morty never gets boring. There's not much confusion or a lot of plot holes either. Sound/Music: 8/10 There's not much of a soundtrack here but when it's used, it's used very well. In addition, the opening intro has a really cool song to match the tone of the show perfectly. The sound effects that are used sound very realistic and not annoying at all. Visuals: 10/10 The animation used here is very well made. It's very smooth, and it really catches my eye. The way the artists make the characters is really cool and creative. Many of the villains look really cool and spell creativity and eye candy to viewers. "Feels": 10/10 I could bond with the characters easily. All of them are likable and weren't ever annoying and hateful, I could easily understand their motives. I felt very happy watching this show and very eager to watch episode after episode, overall great characters to work with. Personal Experiences: I had lots of fun with this show. The adventures Rick and Morty go on are just entertaining to see and it's a great experience to see them go on those adventures. Also, the two have a great relationship that was proven to exist in an episode. Rick is easily my favorite character in this show. He's funny, and a cool grandfather anyone would want to have live with them in my opinion. I'd like to thank Greenlean once again for recommending this show. Would I recommend it? Yeah, if you like Sci-Fi, Comedy, and Adventure you will enjoy this show without a doubt. Overall Rating: 9.7/10 +Factor is back to tell us about the 2002 adventures of Scooby Doo's gang and the villain who, presumably, would have gotten away with it too if it weren't for those meddling kids.
Scooby-Doo Age Certification: PG Genre: Adventure, Comedy, Mystery Director: Raja Gosnell Writers: James Gunn, Craig Titley Notable Actors: Neil Fanning Released: June 14 2002 Synopsis: After an acrimonious break up, the Mystery Inc. gang are individually brought to an island resort to investigate strange goings on. Review Acting: 4/10 The characters weren't themselves in the movie, either they would super mad at each other or just be mean spirited to everyone, unlike the original characters from the show. Writing: 1/10 The writing is the complete opposite of who the Scooby Doo characters really are. In the film, they're written to be mean spirited and just plain unlikeable. Also, none of the scenes were really all that funny at all and the jokes were poorly made in my opinion. Sound/Music: 7/10 (This is the only positive thing about this movie) I liked the chase scene's song, it was pretty catchy and I liked it, it improved a bad movie but really didn't save the movie either. Visuals: 1/10 The CGI was god awful, it was poorly made and a 3 year old could make it look better, the monsters looked so disgustingly unrealistic it almost made me wanna turn off the movie. The CGI for Scooby was pretty bad as well. None of the CGI blends in with the environment. Just overall bad and looked like it was taken out of the garbage. "Feels": 1/10 The characters were so mean spirited it's not even funny. The characters' actions were never justified at all and everyone seemed to ignore the gang being huge jerks to everyone. It's not appealing and it's not funny when a protagonist is being a jerk to people, at all! Personal Experiences: [MAJOR PLOT SPOILERS] I hated all of this movie, the characters were horribly made, the CGI for the monsters were terrible to look at, and to top it off it wasn't funny at all, just mean spirited and dreadful in every sort. It was very anti-climatic when the villain was Scrappy Doo. Also, speaking of Scrappy Doo, he was kicked out and left in the middle of nowhere in the film, a great example of how mean spirited it is. Would I recommend it? Not at all, this movie is garbage and it makes fun of what Scooby Doo really is. Overall Rating: 2.3/10 A spit on the original classic Factor is back and reads us a page from the Diary of a Wimpy Kid
Diary of a Wimpy Kid Genre: Comedy, Family Age Certification: PG Director: Thor Freudenthal Writers: Jackie Filgo, Jeff Filgo, Gabe Sachs, Jeff Judah Notable Actors: Robert Capron, Devon Bostick Release: 3/19/2010, English Plot Outline: Live-action adaptation of Jeff Kinney's illustrated novel about a wise-cracking sixth grade student. Review Acting: 6/10 I liked some scenes but sometimes it got too mean-spirited at times and I just didn't like it as much as some of the other scenes that did slightly better. Not much of the movie was all that funny and Greg and Rowley don't connect with each other as friends unlike the book where they are great friends. Writing: 4/10 There were some unnecessary scenes that felt like it looked like something good would happen, but really nothing really good happened to the main protagonist and it ended up not being all that funny in the end. I didn't really like how Patty was written, she sounded really annoying and just unlikable in every sense and nothing bad ever happens to her. That's what a movie should do if there's an antagonist. Sound/Music: 4/10 Most of the songs played in the movie aren't really set correctly and there could've been much better choices made then to chose very cheesy ones from the 80's and such. Visuals: 1/10 There weren't any visuals that really added to the experience to this movie. Actually, there were no visuals, so not much here. "Feels": 1/10 I don't think that Greg was well played in this movie. I found Rowley to do the stupidest things sometimes, even a dog would know not to do what he did. It didn't really add to the comedy that was already dead in this movie. I didn't bond with the characters because they're either bland or annoying painful to see them in the film. Personal Experiences: [MINOR PLOT SPOILERS] Well, I didn't enjoy it. The film wasn't really all that funny and sometimes when it tried to be funny it seemed that it got very mean spirited instead. Some scenes you can tell were just plain stupid and wasn't really meant to be there in the first place. I didn't feel like the scene where Rowley got a new best friend, because it didn't really go anywhere to begin with. Also, there could've been ways to make some of the unnecessary scenes much better. For example, when Greg needed to hide himself from the red truck he could've easily faced his back towards the truck and that would've been fine. Would I recommend it? No not really, but I do recommend the book instead. It's much better and the unnecessary scenes in the movie aren't in the book Overall Rating: 4/10 Read the books they're much better. Factor hits us with his latest review for the TV series Arrow.
Arrow Genre: Action, Adventure, Crime Director: John Behring Writers: Greg Berlanti, Marc Guggenheim Notable Actors: Stephen Amell, Katie Cassidy, David Ramsey Run Time: 2012- Synopsis: Spoiled billionaire playboy Oliver Queen is missing and presumed dead when his yacht is lost at sea. He returns five years later a changed man, determined to clean up the city as a hooded vigilante armed with a bow. Review Acting: 10/10 The acting is phenomenal. It really made me capture the essence of what was going on in each scene, making it very realistic. Writing: 8/10 I liked the writing, the characters are developed well and easy to understand. Unfortunately, there are a few unnecessary scenes, but that doesn't take away from the overall experience. Sound/Music: 10/10 Arrow's soundtrack is really cool. It captures the intensity in the action scenes perfectly. Visuals: 9/10 I loved the visuals, especially during the action scenes. They looked outstanding and one of a kind to me personally, very well done in general. "Feels": 10/10 I could feel that I was really in the show and feel the drama and hardships the characters are feeling, which is awesome so I could get a better understanding of the characters and how they react to certain situations. Personal Experiences: I really liked Arrow. I was hooked from the very beginning of the first episode to now, all the action and the build-up to the villains. It's really awesome and you should check it out. Some villains make cameos ranging from one to several episodes in Arrow, which is really sweet. Would I recommend it? Yeah, it has great action, a great storyline, and great characters overall. It's lots of fun to watch and it's simply epic. Overall Rating: 9.4/10 |
