THE MAZE RUNNER Book: The Maze Runner Genre: Action, Mystery, Adventure Author: James Dashner Age range: Young Adult Pages: 374 Synopsis: “If you ain’t scared, you ain’t human.” When Thomas wakes up in the lift, the only thing he can remember is his name. He’s surrounded by strangers—boys whose memories are also gone. “Nice to meet ya, shank. Welcome to the Glade.” Outside the towering stone walls that surround the Glade is a limitless, ever-changing maze. It’s the only way out—and no one’s ever made it through alive. “Everything is going to change.” Then a girl arrives. The first girl ever. And the message she delivers is terrifying. Remember. Survive. Run. Review Plot: I thought the plot was very well made, as this was only the first in the series questions were left answers so at the end of the book you are itching to find out more on the secrets. The plot was engaging and throughout the book I couldn’t stop reading. Overall I found the plot engaging and full, I couldn’t stop reading it. (9.5/10) Pace: The Maze Runner goes at a steady pace until the last third of the book, it speeds up quite a bit in the last third. I think that the story goes too fast in the last third but the rest goes at a very good pace. I don’t think the speed in the end does justice to the book and if it had gone slower I would have enjoyed the end more. The sped up bit was full of action however so I didn’t feel as it got boring. (8/10) Characters: I thought the characters were very well thought out with every detail. They all had their own unique traits and we immediately felt pity for the main character ‘Thomas’ and we identified ‘Gally’ as a kind of enemy. Each character had a part in the plot, everyone had something to do with the plot(9/10) Writing: The writing in ‘The maze runner’ is quite unique in the sense that the gladers have their own language. It is very easy to understand and incorporates a lot of slang in the language. Some stuff could be a little more descriptive however. (8.5/10) Word-building: I found that some places lacked description however it was enough for you to imagine the scene in your head. The locations in the book, I thought were very well created and I enjoyed reading about them. (9/10) "Feels": The story made me feel as if i was in the story, I always wanted to know what would happen to the characters next. I also felt for certain characters, for example I wanted newt to succeed while gally didn’t give me the best vibe. (9/10) Personal Experience: Ever since I read the Maze Runner, I have always been looking forward to reading the later books in the series, so far I have read book 2 as well but have been looking forward to reading book 3 a lot. As this is a dystopia it always makes you think about how the world would turn out in later years so I did. I really liked this book and I think it was mainly because I like this kind of genre so if you like these kind of genres I really recommend giving it a try Overall Rating: 9/10 Would definitely recommend this book to others. Captain Skywalker with a review on another Batman movie
BATMAN BEGINS Movie: Batman Begins Genre: Action Age Certification: PG-13 Director: Christopher Nolan Writers: Based on the DC Comics character Batman Notable actors: Christian Bale,Michael Caine,Liam Neeson,Katie Holmes,Gary Oldman,Cillian Murphy,Tom Wilkinson,Rutger Hauer,Ken Wannabe, and Morgan Freeman Release: June 15, 2005(USA),June 10, 2005(Russia), and June 16, 2005(UK) Plot Outline: The story follows Bruce Wayne and his backstory and builds up to his destiny to become Batman REVIEW Acting: 10/10 I absolutely loved the acting in this movie and it felt like everyone was cast perfectly. Especially Christian Bale as Batman. Everyone just did their part very well. Writing: 10/10 I thought the script and the story was brilliantly written. It follows a darker tone than most superhero movies but Batman is a really dark character so the tone fit really well. There was also some good character development which was awesome. Sounds/Music: 9/10 I loved the soundtrack to this movie. Every background song felt just right for the scene. Visuals: 9/10 For a movie that's 10 years old it still looks great. It has aged really well and it's just amazing. "Feels": 10/10 [MINOR PLOT SPOILERS] Batman as a character has a lot of these kinds of moments and this movie replicates that. From his parents dying to his initial fear of bats, this movie does a lot of these dark moments perfectly and I really felt bad for him at times. Personal experience: I had this movie for years but I never watched it. I finally decided to do so after getting the Dark Knight movies for Christmas and this movie blew me away. I didn't know what to expect but whatever it was, it blew my expectations out of the water. This movie is an absolute masterpiece for it's brilliant acting, great script, engaging plot, and more. Overall rating: 9.5/10 Would I recommend this movie to others? Heck yeah I would. I didn't hate anything about this movie. You should DEFINITELY watch it. |
