A7xDrumCovers has decided to join us with his take on film GLOBAL METALGenre: Documentary, Music
Age Rating: 14A Directors: Scot McFadyen, Sam Dunn Writers: Scot McFadyen, Sam Dunn Notable Appearances: Sam Dunn, Lars Ulrich (Metallica), Tom Araya (Slayer), Bruce Dickinson (Iron Maiden) Release Information: October 17, 2007 (Bergen International Film Festival); 20 June, 2008 Plot/Goal: Sam Dunn has recieved multiple notes from fans across the world for his previous movie, Metal: A Headbanger's Journey (2005), and has inspired him to travel around the world to learn about metal cultures outside of North America. While doing this, he meets up with metal bands who originated from these countries, as well as American bands with stories related to such countries, to learn about the struggle and shocking details about being a band, or a fan, in a foreign country. Review Interviews + Narration (Acting + Writing) 10/10 - As with most documentaries, one of the most important pieces of making a inspiring story is to have good speakers, and being a good speaker yourself. Sam Dunn is the narrator and star of the film, as well as writer and even director, and he takes this position very well with the emphasis and pleasant descriptions we hope to hear in a movie to keep it from being stale. Metal artists being interviewed, as well as fans, describe their countries and compare America to them, in such a way that could be agreed with in a similar manor to anyone watching wether a Metal fan or not, but keeps it sensibly appealing to the main demographic of Metal-heads. Soundtrack 8/10 - In general, the soundtrack could appeal to just about anyone who listens to any Metal subgenre, but as for people who do not listen to Metal, this might not work for you. Since this movie is directed to Metal fans anyways, this should be much of an issue. However, some of the music used in this film is even too heavy for my tastes, especially considering my WIDE array of Metal enthusiasm. Regardless, its easy to respect it and simply let it pass as you continue to focus on the interviews themselves. Visuals 9/10 - Something that caught my eye a lot better than most other documentaries was the lack of visual statistics, and more theorizing and discussion of the flow of music in each country. Visually, you understand what people are going through in these countries on a daily basis, you understand the life they have to live, you see what they risk just to be a metal fan, even if it is against the cultural norm. This kind of visual treating is shown particularly in the India segment of the movie. Without spoiling anything, if you happen to see the movie, have a good look yourself to see what I mean. Feels 10/10 - Regardless of what kind of person you are, it is very easy to become attached to the fans in particular, and the lifestyle they describe in every country. The pain they go through and the issues they take on, as well as the social outcasting, makes you feel emotion for these people, and makes you feel lucky in comparison. Not to give the audience a total guilt trip, however, as many of these people stand for their country and hope to make the name of such countries high ranking in the metal-scene. Its a powerful message, really. Personal Experiences - I found the Japanese, Indian, and Indonesian segments the most interesting because of the stories the fans and bands discuss at these moments. I felt that their stories were the most interesting, without becoming too controversial. I am not one to be interested in Religious issues which are highly covered in Isreal and Dubai, however your mileague may vary. Overall Rating - 9.5/10 Would I recommend this movie? Absolutely, especially to anyone who is familiar with Metal or interested in anthropology. The movie has a message to take for anyone though, even if you dont listen to Metal. Its certainly a one-of-a-kind treat to see different countries' normality compared in this way, and it feels rather perfect for someone who has always wondered how a band from overseas could've gotten big enough to be known globally. Please go see this movie if you havent already, it is one of the best and most unique documentaries I've ever seen. BREAKING BAD#Limbo HenGoku with a review on the well known series Breaking Bad Genre: Crime, Drama, Thriller Age certification: Rated R Directer: Vince Gilligan Writer(s): Vince Gilligan Notable actor(s): Bryan Cranston, Aaron Paul, RJ Mitte, Anna Gunn Release Information: January 20, 2008 - September 29, 2013, English Plot Outline: A chemistry teacher diagnosed with a terminal lung cancer, teams up with his former student, Jesse Pinkman, to cook and sell crystal meth Review Acting 10/10: The acting in this movie is probably one of the best acting I have ever seen. Bryan Cranston kills it as Walter White. There's a reason why he won an emmy for each season. Aaron Paul also did a good job in the show. Everyone in this show brought their A game. The acting was very believable and made the characters likable for what they were and made them hateble for what they were. Writing 10/10: I thought the writing in the movie was flawless as well. The story is very intriguing and the characters are introduced. There is some very good character development in this show as well. I would say that there was one unnecessary episode but even it was enjoyable to watch. The dailog is very good, too. Soundtrack 10/10: I thought the soundtrack in the movie was pretty good and that it fit each scene perfectly. I don't remember much being played but I know I liked it a lot. Especially the opening intro. Visuals 10/10: This show looks pretty good and I thought everything looked real. The blood looks real, the gun fights look real, everything was eye candy. The visuals added to overall expereince Feels 10/10: I was very emotionally invested in the movie. I really felt for Aaron Paul's charater, Jessie Pinkman. The things he was going through, the amount of loses he had was just sad to me. Personal Experiences: This a really good show. First of all, I like how they show the main characters decline to villainy, I thought they did that really well. My favorite character throughout the entire show is Jessie Pinkman. I thought he was pretty badass. You know how some shows had bad seasons? Not this one. This show literally gets better and darker each season. There are no bad seasons what so ever. There is absolutely nothing I did not like about this show. Overall Rating 10/10 Amazing Would I recommend it? Of course I would recommend one of the best dramas ever made. If you have not seen this show, what're you doing? TTPK Tal reviews one of his all-time favourites, the highly successful and critically acclaimed The Dark Knight. The Dark KnightMovie: The Dark Knight
Genre: Action, Adventure, Drama, Thriller Director: Christopher Nolan Age Certification: PG-13 Writers: Jonathan Nolan, Christopher Nolan, David S. Goyer Notable Actors: Heath Ledger, Chrisitian Bale, Morgan Freeman, Michael Caine, Gary Oldman, Aaron Eckhart Release: 2008 (Various), English Plot Outline: The Dark Knight shows how the Batman's presence in Gotham City has also allowed for the rise of criminals such as the Joker and the clash of their different mentalities. REVIEW Acting: 10/10 Even though Christian Bale's Batman is one of the worst, he is, in my opinion, the best Bruce Wayne ever, supplemented with strong performances by Michael Caine as Alfred, Morgan Freeman as Lucius Fox and outstanding ones by Gary Oldman and Aaron Eckhart. But it's time to get to the real star, Heath Ledger. He is the best Joker to exist on screen, with one of the finest performances on film ever. He sold his role as The Joker and this can be terrifyingly real for some people. Writing: 10/10 The script was brilliant for a dark superhero movie. The story was great, thrilling and had The Batman in ruins at times, offering great action, great plot progression and adequate pacing. The Nolan brothers' screenplay along with Nolan's and Goyer's adaptation of the comic book story is very well done. The Dark Knight does have some minor flaws like the opening scene and the hospital scene being forgotten quickly. Directing: 10/10 Nolan is a unique director, but he has things he always does like the disjointed story telling. Here, however, it fully works. Every time I rewatch, I see something new in the movie that I haven't seen before. Nolan directed The Dark Knight amazingly. Soundtrack: 8/10 The sound assets are great, but the soundtrack for the motion picture isn't particularly noteworthy. While not being bad, it's not great either and it's not something I'd go and listen to in my free time. Visuals: 10/10 The action is amazing, thrilling, constantly moving, perfectly paced and looks amazing. The disturbingly high budget helped alot with that. "Feels": 10/10 **MINOR PLOT SPOILERS** In The Dark Knight, you really feel the mental issues that both the main characters, villains and the characters to become villains are all really relatable with their own tragedies and character development. I can even relate to the Joker. Personal experience: The Dark Knight is my 10th favorite film. While I do see its flaws, like the bullshit ending, it still is an amazing movie you can watch solely for Heath Ledger's performance as The Joker. Seeing this movie and counting 16 times, not getting sick of even a single moment really means it's great for rewatching. Overall rating: The Dark Knight gets a 10/10. Would I recommend to others: Very much so. The incredible %Limbo Hengoku has yet another review lined up. I wonder if he turns green while writing those!
The Incredible Hulk Genre: Sci-fi, Thriller, Action Age Certification: PG 13 Director: Louis Leterrier Writer: Zak Penn, Based on The Incredible Hulk by Stan Lee, Jack Kirby Notable Actors: Edward Norton, Liv Tyler, Tim Roth, Tim Blake Nelson, Ty Burrell, William Hurt Release: 6/13/2008, English Plot Outline: Dr. Bruce Banner, thanks to a gamma ray experiment gone wrong, transforms into a giant green-skinned hulk whenever his heart rate gets too high. Meanwhile, a soldier uses the same technology to become an evil version of the original. Review Acting: 9/10 The acting was good and the actors are believable. Edward Norton was a really good Bruce Banner in The Incredible Hulk. He fit his role perfectly. Everyone else was good, too, but I felt like it could've been better. I also enjoyed the Hulk's voice over. Writing: 9/10 The story was interesting and the characters were introduced. There was decent character development and there are no unnecessary scenes. Sound/Music: 10/10 The sound track was enjoyable and fit each scene perfectly. It influenced each moment in a good way and the sound effects were cool, too. Visuals: 9/10 Everything looked great and added to overall experience. CGI was decent, but could've been better. "Feels": 7/10 I did feel emotionally invested because The Incredible Hulk had very touching moments. The relationship between Bruce Banner/The Hulk and Betty Ross was really touching. This movie as a whole was exciting and kept me at the edge of my seat. It pretty much had me happy the entire time. Personal Experiences: One of the things I loved about this movie was how they illustrated Bruce Banner dealing with The Hulk on a daily basis. I also loved the big contrast between Bruce Banner and The Hulk and also liked him as Bruce Banner. Furthermore, I enjoyed how, whenever Betty was involved in bad situations, The Hulk tries his hardest to protect her from any form of harm. I liked seeing Bruce Banner trying to cure himself and I love it when he "hulks out" and starts wrecking things. I'd say my least favorite part was when The Hulk and Abomination fought in all their CGI glory. It was entertaining and cool to watch but to me it was the least interesting part of the movie. But all in all this movie pleased me well. Overall rating: 8.5/10 Would I recommend it? Yes I would recommend because this is a movie that everyone should give a shot at. It's worth the watch. %Limbo Hengoku is back to tell us all about the latest exploits of the master martial artist mammal, Kung Fu Panda 2.

Review Acting: 10/10 The voice overs were excellent, fit each character perfectly. Everyone did a great job. Writing: 10/10 The story was great and the characters are introduced. Also had some good character development as well. The story delved deeper into the character arc of the protagonist. The dialogue was good as well. Soundtrack: 10/10 The soundtrack in this movie was good. It fits each situation very well and influences the moment. Sound effects were good as well. Visuals: 10/10 Everything looked great and added to overall experience. It's a CGI movie so the 3D looked good. The cinematography was excellent as well. "Feels" 9/10: This movie had a lot of heart and it did it well. It was humorous and emotional too. I related to Master Tigress because I don't like seeing people I care about get hurt. In this movie she shows how much she cares about the people she is close to. This movie had me had pretty happy the entire time and was exciting. Personal Experience: One of the things I like about the movie was that it didn't nerf the main character. In this movie the main character was awesome and I enjoyed watching this character throughout this movie. Another thing I liked about the movie was the kung-fu, it was awesome. I also liked the villain, who in my opinion ranks along side Scar (The Lion King) and Jafaar (Aladdin). He was as good as them, and I loved him as the villain. Everything I looked for in a sequel was in this movie. By around the end of the movie I felt incredibly impressed. This movie was awesome, I can't find anything bad about it. Overall Rating: 9.5/10 Would I recommend it? Yes I would because this a movie that everyone can enjoy. It's not a kids movie but a family movie. If you're an adult and you go watch this movie you're gonna enjoy it. Worth the watch. |
